In this session, I'll cover one part of open source business strategy that is so often overlooked and often why commercial open source businesses often hit a growth wall. Open-source business models are not static. While so much attention for a growing open source business is on traditional scaling of the community and the steps needed to do this effectively, often overlooked or missing for the company growth strategy is - what are you doing to scale your OSS business model, project distribution structure, and support strategies. You may have chosen open core, fully open-source, SaaS, or various other hybrid models. Depending upon where your business is in its growth curve your initial approach is likely no longer valid. Successful open-source businesses understand when and how to manage the “value equation” for customer and investor value as well as how that impacts which commercialization model to choose at each stage of growth. I'll provide the top 5 KPIs and strategies to adopt and share real-world examples, from direct experience at companies such as Red Hat, VMware/Nicera, Huawei, Hortonworks, Kublr, and others to help you chart your business and distribution strategy.
